Renee Booker

President / CEO

Most recently Mr. Booker served as Director of Financial Operations for the Social Development Commission and managed an operating budget that exceeded 28 million dollars. Prior to that Mr. Booker served as Deputy Secretary for the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands in Madison and had responsibility for the oversight of staff, operations and trust funds that exceeded 700 million dollars.

Prior to his employ with The State, Mr. Booker worked for Milwaukee County for 26 years and held a number of positions including Director – Finance and Operations for the Dept. on Aging, Division Administrator for Child Welfare, Accounting Manager, Dept. of Administration, and Director of Industries for the House of Correction.

Mr. Booker is a Certified Government Financial Manager, and earned a Certificate in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He has an Associate Degree in Accounting from Stratton College and Bachelor Degrees in Business Administration and Accounting from Lakeland College. He is a member of Government Finance Officers Association, Association of Government Accountants and a member of the Nation Forum for Black Public Administrators. Mr. Booker currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Council for Spanish Speaking and Wisconsin Community Services (WCS).

John Connelly

Community Prosecution Staff Assistant

John began his tenure w/ the North Avenue Community Development Corporation (NACDC) in June of 2006, bringing with him a passion for urban living and a desire to improve his community. His current position has him working a longside neighborhood stakeholders, the Milwaukee Police Department and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office to improve the quality of life for residents in the near north side of Milwaukee.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, John received a BS in Political Science, along with a Minor in History and a Certificate in Urban Planning. Prior to his service to the NACDC, John worked for the City of Milwaukee, spent time in the nonprofit sector and worked on various political campaigns in the city and county of Milwaukee

Kathy Walker

Director of Programs | Organizer

Most recently Ms. Walker served as the Information Technology Telecommunications/Trainer Administrator for the Social Development Commission.

Prior to that Ms. Walker served as Information Systems Asset Manager for Miller Brewing Company (MBCo) for 17 years located Milwaukee, WI. She had the responsibility of overseeing all aspects of hardware and software standardization, capital budgets, and $25 million inventory for Miller Brewery Co 19 Market Area and Satellite Offices and supported 652 Sales Force customers.

Negotiated service maintenance agreement contracts for company-wide hardware equipment, and worked with vendors to standardize the leasing program. Developed key training classes and materials to enable all users with key knowledge on all company-wide systems.

Ms. Walker is Licensed and Certified by the State of Wisconsin as Technology Consultant. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Communications & MIS from Concordia University.

Cavalier Johnson

North Avenue Gateway District Main Street Manager

Cavalier ‘Chevy’ Johnson began his tenure with the North Avenue Community Development Corporation in late April of 2010. Prior to becoming the Program Manager for the North Avenue Gateway District in the Main Street Milwaukee program, Chevy worked with Milwaukee area youth in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program and the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board’s (MAWIB) Earn & Learn program. Chevy has also worked for private sector and nonprofit entities in Madison, Wisconsin and New York City.



Chevy has spent nearly a decade working with and serving the community. He has logged countless community service and volunteer hours during his time with the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee’s Sponsor-A-Scholar program—which he is still affiliated with today. Chevy has also volunteered his time and energy to causes that he believes in from helping to repair and remodel a YMCA sponsored school for young children in Valparaiso, Chile to assisting the residents of the New Orleans, Louisiana with home repairs soon after hurricanes Katrina and Rita to working with at-risk youth in London, England.



Chevy, a proud Milwaukee native, is a 2009 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Chevy has been politically involved since college, and has worked or volunteered for numerous political functions.



Chevy is thrilled to be working with Main Street Milwaukee, the North Avenue Community Development Corporation, North Avenue Gateway District businesses and neighborhoods to build a stronger community on and around North Avenue for all to enjoy.
